Matthew Bason is a highly versatile musician with over 30 years of professional experience, performing across the UK, mainland Europe, the USA and Canada. Known for his musical sensitivity, technical command and natural flair for improvisation, no two performances are ever quite the same.
His repertoire spans an exceptional breadth of styles—from classical and jazz through to blues, Latin, ragtime, contemporary and even Bollywood—allowing him to tailor each performance precisely to the occasion. Whether providing elegant background music or delivering a full concert programme, Matthew has an instinctive ability to read a room and create the right atmosphere.
A respected pianist and piano-vocalist, Matthew has held residencies at a number of prestigious venues including The Savoy and The Connaught in London, The Rubens at the Palace, Sopwell House, Kettering Park Hotel & Spa, Althorp House, and The Quod in Oxford, where he is currently a resident pianist.
Alongside his piano work, Matthew is an established concert organist, performing on both theatre pipe and electronic organs since 1994. His programmes are designed to showcase the full expressive range of the instrument, challenging perceptions and bringing the “King of Instruments” to wider audiences beyond traditional enthusiasts. He is particularly renowned for his improvisations, including live accompaniment to silent films such as The Phantom of the Opera, Wings, and classic Laurel and Hardy comedies.
His career has included residencies at Ashorne Hall (Warwick) and the Scarborough Fair Collection (Filey), where he performed regularly on Wurlitzer and Compton theatre organs. He also remains active as a church musician and is currently organist for the GATE Group of Churches in Buckinghamshire, and one of the resident organists at The Musical Museum, Brentford.
In 2023, Matthew was invited to become a Brand Ambassador for Yamaha Corporation, performing on the flagship Genos 2 system alongside Yamaha digital pianos. This partnership reflects both his technical excellence and his commitment to delivering the highest quality musical experience.
Whether at the piano, organ or microphone, Matthew brings artistry, professionalism and a distinctive musical voice to every performance.
